| Bluetooth low energy (BLE)
is a feature of Bluetooth 4.0 wireless radio technology, aimed
at new, low-power and low-latency, applications for wireless
devices within a short range (up to 50 metres).
Applications
Due to BLEs very low energy consumption, it is possible to
make periperal devices that run of coin cell batteries for
many years. This facilitates a wide range of applications
and smaller form factor devices in the healthcare, fitness,
security and home entertainment industries. It is possible
to have sensors such as thermometers operating continuously,
and intermittently communicating with other devices like a
mobile phone.
